Birthday Box Party Favours

This craft is an interesting one because it can be adapted and adjusted as a party favor for all ages. For instance, you can create small birthday boxes for a preteen party in place of the old-fashioned loot bags.

What to include? Something that is indicative of the guest of honor's tastes For example, a preteen might enjoy lip-gloss, earrings, bubble gum, and key chains—your choices truly depend on the likes of the guest of honor and your parties’ theme. Keep in mind though, small objects due to the intimate size of the work best and inexpensive is the key—try shopping around to buy items in bulk or at discount pricing.

The finished products make for lovely decorations for your party table.

For instance, one of the first birthday boxes I've completed was for a young woman on her 25th birthday. Keeping in mind her tastes, each birthday box included specialty herbal tea, home made sugar cookies and Ferraro Rocher chocolates—her favorite!

Choose a theme! Be sure to use a base color that reflects the person the boxes are intended for. Follow these easy instructions to make your next party favor an elegantly pleasing one.

What you will need:

Per one 3.5” box;

-1 small box

-2 squares of netting 18x16 inches

-Small faux flowers

-2 sets of curly ribbon (Color's to compliment one another)

-basket grass (just enough to cover box bottom)

-items of your choosing for inside

*Please note these sizes will vary as the size of your box. Example; more material is needed for a bigger box.

Visit a local party supply store such as Paper Factory. Purchase a set of small set of boxes—most stores offer a variety of sizes. I prefer the 3.5” by 3.5” size, which cost approx. 2 for a dollar. Keeping in mind, you should purchase at least 5 more boxes than you think is necessary to accommodate the potential attendance of unexpected guests.

Next, a quick trip to your local dollar store will assist you in the box decorating process. Anything goes! Curly ribbon, faux flowers, basket grass, Easter grass are easily available here.

Visit a material store to purchase netting for the box exterior. With 1 metre of netting, you should be able to use for 5-6 small boxes.

It's time to fill up the birthday boxes! Remember those items we discussed earlier? Using the basket grass fill the bottom of the box. Put all your goodies inside, making sure the box is reasonable full—and be even with your distributions!

With the two pieces of pre-cut netting, place the box in the middle, gathering the box using the four corners and tying it with curling ribbon. In the box centre, use the pre-selected faux flowers placing them in the middle.

Optional! Add a personalized touch to your party favour by adding a thank you message commemorating the day with the party date.  Have fun with your decoration! Choose things that appeal to the guest of honour.
