Welcome Spring Party for Children!

Spring, the sweet spring, is the year's pleasant king;
Then blooms each thing, then maids dance in a ring,
Cold doth not sting, the pretty birds do sing.
Cuckoo, jug-jug, pu-we, to-witta-woo!

The world is suddenly alive, and a great way to share your joy at the warming world is to have a Welcome Spring Party for the kids! There are a lot of exciting things you can do with this versatile theme that will please the kiddies and give you a chance to flex your creative muscles.

Invitations: Bright colours, pastels and sweet words are key to great springtime invitations. A gardening hat, cut out of construction paper, with a poem about spring on the back, (like the one above), is a whimsical way to invite the little ones to your special event. Or, you could pick up a silk flower at your local dollar store and attach a small paper tag to it in the shape of a leaf. Write your party details on the leaf.

Other type of invites you might like to try: bird shapes (using coloured feathers), a smiling sun with gold sparkles, or even a bumblebee shaped invite complete with pipe cleaner antennae.

Activities: Springtime is all about the renewing of nature, so your activities can naturally revolve around this theme. You can also make your party educational by explaining how each activity works and how the animals and plants will benefit from the care of your guests’ little hands. Paint wooden birdhouses for the baby birds that will soon be born. Purchase small pots and plant sunflower seeds that will grow into glorious flowers. Another really fun and tasty activity is a cupcake-decorating contest. Mix up colourful icings and sprinkles and candies, and ask the kids to make their best springtime themed cupcake. Of course, every child will turn out a winner when they get to eat their prize creation!

Party Favours: The children will get to take home whatever creation they made at the party, but another nice touch would be to send each child off with their own small gardening tool. You can purchase inexpensive trowels and gardening gloves at a discount store, and tie them with bright ribbon and a handmade tag thanking each child for coming, and encouraging them to garden with their parents this spring.
